Summer is in full swing, and it is my favorite time of year to read. I love that you can go outside, find a quiet spot, and enjoy the sun while you get your learning on. Because I live in Wisconsin, I like to take full advantage of the warm weather while I can. It will be snowing again before you know it. This year, I decided to plan and pick five books that I would read during the summer months, and I’m calling it my Boss Lady summer reading list. It’s a mix of 3 books that I think will help move my business forward and mixed with two books that I’m reading for fun
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown
At the beginning of 2018, I picked the word courage as my word of the year. The year is halfway over, and so far I am failing greatly in the courage department. I chose this book to help get my butt in gear and hopefully gain some insight into what is stopping me from daring greatly.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I have a feeling that I may need a break after reading something as deep as Daring Greatly, so Yes Please is the next book on my list. I adore Amy Poehler. She’s smart, funny and I loved her on Saturday Night Live and Parks and Rec. I’m looking forward to reading lots of fun stories and learning a few things along the way.
Grit by Angela Duckworth
In this book, Angela Duckworth argues that Grit is more important than talent or natural ability when it comes to success. I’ve always associated the word grit with stubbornness and being stubborn is not a good thing in my mind. I’m looking forward to reading about her research and seeing if she can change my mind on this topic.
Crushing it by Gary Vaynerchuk
Gary Vaynerchuk is a total boss when it comes to Social Media and influencing behaviors. In this book, Gary talks about how important having a personal brand is and why it is crucial for any entrepreneur. It also delves into how to utilize each social media platform to its best advantage for your business. I could use all of this in my life, so I’m hoping to learn a ton.
How to Travel the World on $50 a Day by Matt Kepner
Traveling is my ultimate goal in life. I want to see every corner of the world and take in each unique countries culture. Unfortunately, I do not often travel because I’m completely broke. This book is a glimmer of hope that I may be able to save up a small amount of money and see the world. Here’s hoping that there are some excellent ideas so I can take you on some real adventures with me.
I hope this Boss Lady Summer reading list has inspired you to pick up a book or two. What’s on your reading list right now? I would love to hear all about them in the comments.
